Albert W. Turner, a native of Hyattsville, Maryland, built his first 75 single-family homes before World War II at the age of 21.  After serving three years in the military with the Navy "Seabees", he returned home and built an additional 125 homes in Montgomery County and Prince George's Counties, Maryland.  Mr. Turner created MCD Enterprises in 1949 to develop premier residential communities, such as: North College Park, Lewis Heights, The City of New Carrollton, Kettering, Calverton, Enterprise Estates, and Kingsford in Prince George's County; Olney Mill in Montgomery County; Prospect Plantation in Queen Anne County; and several small developments in Howard and Anne Arundel Counties.  MCD Enterprises was sold in 1981 to the Oppenheimer Group, New York City.

The residential communities built by MCD Enterprises created a need for nearby shopping and neighborhood centers.  Carrollton Enterprises, created in 1957, began building shopping centers to support neighborhood growth and economic development and is the developer, owner and manager of eight shopping centers, totaling over 1,250,000 square feet of retail space and approximately 210,000 square feet of Class A office building space.

Albert Turner is a recognized leader in community development.  His vision of planned communities with supporting neighborhood shopping, recreation space and adequate infrastructure, has guided the Maryland suburbs of Washington, D.C., into one of the foremost sought after areas to live in the country.  Mr. Turner's commitment to "Livable Communities" is evident throughout his life, as demonstrated repeatedly by his achievements, support of community organizations and numerous board appointments.

His community service includes acting as the first Mayor of The City of New Carrollton, member of the Board of Directors for Citizens Bank of Maryland (now SunTrust Bank), Prince George’s County Tourism Council, Suburban Maryland Home Builders Association and Washington Metropolitan Homebuilders Association, Hyattsville Lions Club, Maryland Higher Education Commission, the University of Maryland Board of Regents, Prince George’s County United Way and the Southern Maryland Heart Association.

When it comes to retail, Carrollton Enterprises is committed to a partnership with citizens, businesses and Prince George's County police officers to provide security for our shopping centers.  It has developed a security system that uses a combination of three specific resources; mobile and foot security patrols, enhanced lighting and twenty-four hour visual surveillance technology creating a safe environment for our shoppers and tenants.
